1990 Bought my first computer ... had to pay ridiculous amounts of money to have it serviced by someone who knew less than me.
1993 Bought a custom pc from a "friend" ... had to go to him for parts and repairs, Turns out he didn't really know what he was doing.
1996 Had cable Internet installed by a "supervisor" ... I had to do the installation & configuration again after he left.
1998 While working on getting network certifications, found myself in the role of a network admin. The person being paid to do the job was a "paper champion". Made mistakes, had no clue what I was doing, I learned a lot and fixed the broken bits.
The point of all that seeming chest pounding is to say I got really tired of the whole process and decided to learn what to do and how to do it properly. I really messed some things up along the up ... but I fixed them.
I started a small business to offer service and support to small businesses and it went ok. The long and the short of it is that I missed IT, so now I am back.
